Actually Jack McGowran died *after* his job was finished on 'The Exorcist,' and what happens to his character in the movie is identical to the events in the book. From what I remember (which is pretty fuzzy, admittedly), weird occurrences included much of the scenery burning down one weekend, and a crewmember being killed in an on-set (but not during filming) accident. To that I would add that the same guy managed to fall down the long outdoor staircase in Georgetown three times *without* anything happening to him. Pretty eerie.
