I concur with the 5 star rating. However I have to disagree with your opinion about Edmond O'Brien being a weak casting choice. I think he is absolutely right for the part of the small town accountant and his performance strikes just the right note. There is one classic 'noir' ingredient this film has in abundance - the sense that people are never quite who they seem.

There was something about O'Brien that I found a bit out of place, although I shouldn't have said he was a weak casting choice. At the least, he is acceptable, and does well with the material.
